It all begins with an idea.

Born and raised in Calgary, Tara's first love was skiing, which she started at the age of 2. Growing up, she spent her winters ski racing and summers windsurfing, attending sports camps, and lending a hand on her grandparent's farm. As the years unfolded, her interests evolved into backcountry touring, mountain biking, surfing and competitive field hockey with team Alberta.

Tara has always relied on movement as a stress-management tool. However, pregnancy brought on unexpected challenges as she struggled with pelvic symphysis disorder and drifted apart from her close group of adventure buddies—triggering a struggle with depression.

In 2015, Tara welcomed her son, and in 2017, her daughter arrived, ushering in a challenging (and exhausting!) chapter of raising young children while her husband worked away from home. Seeking an escape from the struggles, she stumbled upon a cross-country ski meet-up in the Calgary Outdoor Playgroup. With the encouragement of her husband, she stepped out the door and ended up having a blast—reigniting her confidence and sparking the idea of a community that could bring moms together in their love for the outdoors.

With the support of kindred spirits Bonnie Presser, Laura Hawko, and Elizabeth Watterworth, Tara's vision crystallized into RadMums in May 2018. Today, under her leadership and the collective energy of like-minded women, RadMums thrives with over 5,000 members.

Tara is all about keeping things fresh and exciting. She's the organizer behind "The Strive for 5 Hiking Challenge" and the "1000km Challenge" not to mention the virtual series and relays that kept the RadMums community buzzing during the pandemic. She has also organized group trips to Mount Engadine and the backcountry, and spearheads volunteer activities at the Ronald McDonald House and Servus Calgary Marathon.

RadMums has inspired hundreds to re-discover their old passions, reach new heights, or take their first, tentative steps into the great outdoors. But it is the human connection that means the most to Tara with many sharing that RadMums has "changed their lives."

The group has helped Tara find and maintain a balance of sharing her outdoor passions with her children while chasing her individual goals. This year, she's pumped about taking her kids backcountry camping, exploring Egypt Lake, brushing up on her mountain biking skills, and gearing up for a sprint triathlon with her husband, Nathan. On top of all this, Tara rocks a sustainable blank apparel company, Radish Apparel, and lends a hand in helping local businesses grow with strategic consulting.

She's not just leading RadMums—she's living the adventure and inviting everyone along for the ride.
